Good to know

  • Resigning no longer reduces gratuity: the 2021 law removed the old resignation reductions.
  • Allowances (housing, transport, etc.) are not included – only the basic salary in your contract.
  • UAE nationals are covered by the pension system (GPSSA), not this gratuity.
  • DIFC and ADGM free zones have their own employment laws (e.g. DIFC’s DEWS savings scheme) and are not covered by this calculator.
  • The employer may deduct amounts you legally owe it, and must pay within 14 days of the contract ending.

Questions

Do I get gratuity if I resign in the UAE?

Yes. Under Decree-Law 33/2021 the gratuity is the same whether you resign or are terminated, as long as you completed at least one year of continuous service.

Is gratuity based on basic or gross salary?

Basic salary only. Housing, transport and other allowances are excluded unless your contract says otherwise.

What if I worked less than one year?

No gratuity is due by law if continuous service is under one year.

Do unpaid leave days count?

No. Days of absence without pay are not counted in the service period. Enter them under “More options”.
