Good to know
- The gratuity applies to workers not covered by the Social Protection Law – in practice, non-Omanis. Omanis are covered by the Social Protection Fund.
- The new law applies from its effective date (31 July 2023 is used here); earlier service follows the old law. Check the exact date with the Ministry of Labour.
- The Social Protection Law (Royal Decree 52/2023) plans a savings scheme for expatriates that will replace the lump-sum gratuity once launched. Until then, employers pay the gratuity under Article 61.
- Allowances such as housing and transport are excluded unless the contract says otherwise.
