What is end-of-service gratuity?

Across the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) – the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain and Oman – expatriate employees are usually not part of the national pension system. Instead, the law gives them a lump-sum payment when the job ends. It is called gratuity in the UAE and Qatar, the end-of-service award in Saudi Arabia, and indemnity in Kuwait and Bahrain. Whatever it is called, this site calculates it for you.

The amount depends on three things: how long you worked, your last salary, and the rules of the country you worked in. Some countries use basic salary only, others use the full wage with allowances; some reduce the payment if you resign; and some have a ceiling.

Domestic workers and government employees follow separate rules. That is why this site has a separate calculator for each country and each worker type, with the legal reference shown next to every result.

GCC end-of-service gratuity: common questions

Which GCC countries does this site cover?

All six: UAE, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain and Oman – for private-sector employees, domestic workers and government employees.

Is the result exact?

It is an estimate that follows the published law. Your final amount can differ because of your contract, unpaid leave, deductions or how your employer records your salary.

Do you store the salary I enter?

No. The calculation runs entirely in your browser. Nothing you type is sent to us.

Which countries reduce gratuity on resignation?

Saudi Arabia (Article 85) and Kuwait (Article 53) reduce the award for employees who resign with shorter service. The UAE, Qatar, Bahrain and Oman do not.
